Animation Lab
A movie is lots of still pictures shown fast. Step through them one at a time, then press Play.
Your device asks for less motion, so the pictures wait for you. Use “Next one” to step through, or press Play if you want to.
How do still pictures move?
Every picture in a movie is still. When they flash by one after another, fast enough, your brain joins them together and sees movement. Movies on film usually show 24 pictures every second. Try the speed slider: slow shows each picture on its own, and faster starts to look like one smooth bounce.
Animators change each picture just a little. Look at the popcorn: when it lands, it squashes flat, then stretches as it jumps. That little squash makes the bounce feel real.
