Behind Movie Night
An outdoor movie night takes a crew and a plan. Follow along from an empty lawn to showtime.
-
Step 1 An empty lawn
Every movie night starts with open space. The crew plans where the screen will stand and where families will sit.
-
Step 2 The crew arrives
The crew rolls in the gear in sturdy cases on wheels. Cones keep the path safe while they unload.
Spot it: What keeps the path safe while the crew unloads?
-
Step 3 Screen and sound go up
The screen goes up and gets strapped down tight. Speakers stand on each side, and cables are covered so nobody trips.
Spot it: Why does the crew cover the cables?
-
Step 4 Checks at dusk
Before anyone sits down, the crew tests the picture and the sound. A test pattern shows the colors are right.
Spot it: What does the crew check before the movie?
-
Step 5 Families settle in
Blankets spread out, chairs unfold and the popcorn comes out. The sky gets darker every minute.
-
Step 6 Showtime!
When it's dark enough, the movie starts. The projector's light is now the brightest thing on the screen.
Spot it: Why does the movie wait until dark?
